Tasting Notes: Bruno Verdi makes some of the most underappreciated wines in Italy. Located in the Oltrepo Pavese section of Lombardia, he blends local grapes Croatina, Uva Rara, Ughetta di Canneto with Barbera for the Cavariola Riserva. The wine is dark fruited and spicy, with a striking acidity, recalling the cold and mountainous region from which it comes. Plums, prunes, and dusty dark fruit emerge from the glass with notes of cigar and leather. This is perfect paired with a rich braised meat or seared steak.
