Tasting Notes: Val di Suga's Vigna del Lago Brunello exhibits a distinctly paler, ruby-red color and offers an elegant, nuanced bouquet of fresh cherries, white pepper, and dried flowers with hints of citrus, especially bitter orange. The palate is graceful and medium-bodied, with an appealing freshness and a notable saline, mineral undertone. Fine-grained, silky tannins provide structure and a lengthy finish, which often reveals secondary notes of leather, tobacco, and crushed stones, giving the wine a complex and age-worthy profile reminiscent of a more Burgundian aesthetic.

Estate History: The history of Val di Suga began in 1969 when the estate was established in the northern part of Montalcino, gradually transitioning from farmland to vineyards. The first vintage was released in 1977, and the Vigna del Lago was identified as a single-vineyard "cru" in 1983 due to its unique lakeside position and cooler microclimate. In 1994, the Angelini Group acquired the winery, bringing significant investment and enabling a unique vision: to produce single-vineyard Brunellos from all three distinct slopes of the Montalcino hill. Today, Val di Suga is the only producer to own vineyards on the northeast (Vigna del Lago), southwest (Vigna Spuntali), and southeast (Poggio al Granchio) slopes, allowing them to showcase the diverse expressions of Sangiovese Grosso within the appellation.
