Tasting Notes: The Du Cropio Ciro Rosso Classico Superiore Don Giuva opens with scents of black cherries mixed with clove, wild herbs, and a hint of sage. The palate is firm but silky, with dense, small berries coming into focus, and delicate tannins adding structure. The finish echoes more cherries, incense, flowers, and sweet pipe tobacco. Enjoy it now or save for later - this wine has a long life ahead!
Estate History: Calabria, the toe of the boot, is where the town of Ciro Marina sits on the Ionian Sea facing Greece. This rugged and rustic terrain is cooled by breezes from the sea, and the nearby steep hillsides frame the ocean and provide the perfect conditions for growing the local Gaglioppo grape. The wine estate Du Cropio, meaning “doctor of agronomy" in local dialect, encompasses a total of thirty hectares that are worked by horse and plow. Soils are a mix of clay and limestone, with excellent drainage on the steeply sloped hillside.
