Tasting Notes: Different Mediterranean grape varieties are fermented together and blended to produce Kepos (garden in Greek). The grapes are sourced from older vineyards in Ampeleia di Mezzo, where the Mediterranean scrub dominates the landscape permeating the air with its fragrances. The blend is 50% Alicante Nero (Grenache), 30% Mourvedre, 20% Carignano. Sourced from vineyards closest to the sea, this adds a lifted salinity to the ripe dark berry fruit. A vein of acidity pulses through the wine, giving it a brisk energy and marking it as a wine that will age wonderfully for 3+ years.
Estate History: Ampeleia is a winery in the Upper Maremma region of Tuscany, located in Roccatederighi, a medieval town in the province of Grosseto. This is a project headed by Elisabetta Foradori, winemaker extraordinaire of Trentino. It is guided by vigneron Marco Tait, who took the reins when he was just 22. In almost twenty years of activity, Ampeleia has converted production first into organic and then into biodynamic. The character of Ampeleia has its roots in Cabernet Franc, the grape variety that best expresses the identity of the terroirs, while at the same time telling its story. Ampeleia is at the heart of the Colline Metallifere National Geopark (UNESCO heritage). An area of exceptional geological interest that characterizes the lands and guides the work, first in the vineyard and then in the cellar.
