Tasting Notes: The Valfaccenda Roero Rosso is from organic Nebbiolo grapes vines that come from Loreto, sand-loam soils planted in 1998 that are east-facing, Mompellini, sand-loam-clay soils, planted in 2008, west-facing, and San Grato, sand and limestone, planted in 1967, and southwest-facing. Each parcel is vinified separately and blended to add a different quality to the wine, resulting in a sapid and rich red with floral aromatics, bright red berries on the palate, and just the right amount of tension between the tannic structure and the acidity.
Estate History: The family estate of Luca Faccenda, then known as Valle Faccenda, can be traced back to 1749. The winery is near the hamlet of Madonna di Loreto in the Roero section of Piedmont, an area known for the white grape Arneis and for crafting supple reds from Nebbiolo. There Luca, an enologist and his partner Carolina, an engineer, started making natural wines on the steep, sandy hills of the Roero in 2010 as Valfaccenda. Both wines offered today are totally unique and yet express completely the soils and area from which they come.
