Tasting Notes: Friulano is the most planted white varietal in Colli Orientali and regarded as the region’s flagship grape. The grape is native to the region and has a remarkable ability to age, developing a luscious fruit profile with secondary aromatics of hazelnut and ripe peach. It has long been established that the vine variety known as Friulano is, in fact, a relative of Sauvignon Blanc known both as Sauvignon Vert and Sauvignonasse.
Estate History: Perusini is located in the Colli Orientali subzone of Friuli, a northern wine-growing region specializing in the production of lean and mineral-driven white wines. The Perusini family has been an integral part of Friulian viticulture since the early 19th century when Giacomo Perusini resurrected the winemaking practices in the region. Giacomo, alongside his brother Gianpaolo, worked tirelessly on the vineyard and in the winery in order to revive the native grape varietals that up until that point had been mostly disregarded. Giacomo’s wife, Giuseppina handled the business of things, helping bring the wines of Friuli back onto the international market where they belonged. Today, the winery is operated by Gainpaolo’s daughter Teresa and her husband Giacomo.
